The England and Scotland / Shetland portion is cooked! I have been focusing on the New Zealand portion. The distances are much greater than I had originally believed, and as I want to travel mostly by public transport it is an issue of determining who the operators are and the best way to get decent fares.
Everyone I have contacted has been very heplful and quick to respond. That is a great sign!

The planning process
The planning has begun!!
I am so excited about this trip. For those who do not know, it will be about 10 weeks initally with stops in Shetland (way north of Scotland) for the Up Helly Aa festival, on to India (two weeks), Japan (10 days), Australia and New Zealand (about a month) and then the long haul home for a couple of weeks followed by Zambia and southern France for about five weeks.
I will be bankrupt at the end of it but a truely happy camper!
